Diving in Paradise
Hello! I’m Nina Roberts, a passionate scuba diver who has been fortunate enough to explore oceans around the world. From the vibrant reefs of Australia to the crystal-clear waters of the Maldives, I have lived unforgettable experiences underwater. However, I recently discovered a place that has left me speechless: Gran Canaria. In this article, I want to share with you why scuba diving in Gran Canaria is a unique experience, and why I firmly believe that this island is the best place in the world to dive.
Scuba diving
Gran Canaria: A Scuba Diving Eden
Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands, has earned its reputation as a top diving destination. But what makes diving in Gran Canaria so special? For starters, the climate is a crucial factor. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, the diving weather here is simply ideal. Water temperatures range from 18°C to 24°C, meaning you can dive comfortably all year round. This is a dream come true for any sea lover.
The Diversity of the Marine Ecosystem
The richness of Gran Canaria’s marine ecosystem is astonishing. As you dive into its waters, you find yourself surrounded by spectacular biodiversity. From schools of colorful fish to majestic rays and turtles, every dive is a new adventure. Besides the typical ocean inhabitants, you can also find endemic species that you won’t see anywhere else in the world.
Gran Canaria boasts several exceptional dive sites, such as Mogán and El Cabrón, where underwater lava formations create stunning landscapes that seem out of this world. In El Cabrón, in particular, there is a protected marine reserve, ensuring that the marine life is well cared for and maintained in a pristine state. Here, diving becomes an almost mystical experience, surrounded by the tranquility and splendor of the ocean. But I have truly immersed myself in Southern Gran Canaria, which is also quite wonderful.
The Perfect Company: Aventura en Canarias
Throughout my years of diving, I have had the opportunity to dive with many professional guides. However, I have never had such a close and personalized experience as the one offered by Aventura en Canarias, they are the best in extreme sports. From the very first moment, the team at Aventura en Canarias ensured that every detail of the dive was perfectly organized.
The guides are passionate about the sea, knowledgeable about local marine life, and committed to the safety and well-being of their clients. It’s evident that they enjoy what they do, and their enthusiasm is contagious. I particularly had the pleasure of diving with Paco and Marina. They made me feel as if I were diving with friends rather than being with a group of tourists. This is especially important when diving in unfamiliar waters.
One of the things that impressed me the most was the attention given to each diver. From beginners to experts, everyone received proper instructions and individualized attention. That’s something you don’t see everywhere!
Perfect Weather for Adventure
One aspect I can’t help but mention is the weather. While diving in Gran Canaria, the weather was simply perfect. Although I’ve experienced challenging weather conditions in other diving destinations, everything here was a walk in the park. The softness of the breeze and the warmth of the sun made each dive not only bearable but absolutely enjoyable.
Gran Canaria is famous for its climatic variability, but what’s most interesting is that, although it may rain in some areas, in the south of the island, where the best diving spots are located, the sun shines almost all year round. This means you can always count on favorable diving weather, making Gran Canaria a preferred location for divers of all ages and experience levels.
Dive Mogán
Diving in Mogán
My experience diving in Mogán was simply magical. From the moment I arrived, the underwater scenery was breathtaking; the reefs were teeming with life, with colorful fish and coral formations that seemed like something out of a dream. The clarity of the water and the diversity of marine life made this adventure an unforgettable experience.
Diving in Mogán exceeded all my expectations. The tranquility of the place and the beauty of its seabeds created the perfect environment to enjoy the dive. Each immersion was a new opportunity to discover something surprising, from schools of colorful fish to curious morays hiding among the rocks. And afterward, a paella and squid at the fishing guild in the harbor—life couldn’t be better!
I will definitely return to continue exploring these crystal-clear waters.
Comparison with Other Diving Destinations
Although I have been fortunate enough to dive in several places around the world, the scuba diving experience in Gran Canaria is incomparable. Compared to destinations like Thailand or the Caribbean, Gran Canaria offers a unique combination of climate, marine diversity, and a relaxed atmosphere that is hard to match.
In other places, you often struggle with visibility and changing weather conditions, but here, you can dive with peace of mind and enjoy every moment. Additionally, the fact that dive sites are so close to the coast means you can spend more time exploring the ocean and less time traveling.
The Best Diving Weather in the World
In summary, my scuba diving experience in Gran Canaria was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of perfect weather, rich biodiversity, and the professionalism of the Aventura en Canarias team made me feel right at home. If you’re looking for a diving destination, look no further: Gran Canaria is the place where your diving dreams can come true.
More Things to Explore
In addition to spectacular scuba diving, the south of Gran Canaria offers a variety of routes to explore the island. You can rent a car and drive along the coast, stopping at places like Maspalomas, famous for its dunes, and Puerto Rico, a charming village with endless joy. This combination of aquatic activities and land exploration is what truly makes Gran Canaria a unique destination. From the south of Gran Canaria, there are thousands of hiking routes—you can’t miss this activity.
If after seeing the island underwater you feel like seeing it from the air, I recommend a two-seater paragliding flight. After diving and flying, you can be sure you will have experienced the island in a unique way.
